After flying home for Christmas, it was back to training and competition for Aksel Lund Svindal. Here are his latest diary entries…
December 26 – Bormio
Time to pop that Champagne! But since I’m spending the day on airplanes and in cars travelling to Bormio (that place seems to be far from everywhere!), my birthday party has been rescheduled for summer 2012.

December 27 – Bormio
Dark, bumpy and über stiff legs in the finish area at Bormio. Oh yes, everything is normal in Bormio. Except one thing: last time I checked Hans Olsson was reading car magazines. Now he’s reading about interior design and kitchen supplies.

December 28 – Bormio
One of the toughest downhill races of the year is coming up tomorrow, so it's kind of ironic that we hang out in a church before the bib draw. Time to pray? We’ll see in the morning. I run #16.

December 29 – Bormio
Cool to see Oympic champion Didier Defago back on track after his injury. He won the Bormio race in style today. The Swiss team is crazy strong. If Cuche has a bad day, then Feuz has been there to pick up the win. Today, Feuz went out, but Defago and Kung were there to secure a double win for the Swiss. And this is in a season in which guys like Janka and Zurbriggen have been struggling. I got sixth today, and I'm pretty happy with that. Bormio is a tough race and I’m happy to drive out of here with a good result.

December 31 – Ötztal
Happy New Year everyone. It looks like 2012 will kick off with some good powder skiing. Check out this carpark in Ötzal.

January 1 – Ötztal
I spent today getting 2012′s first powder turns under my belt.

January 2 – Brenner
Seems like every time I’m out driving lately a snowstorm starts. It's like just the sight of me getting behind the wheel makes the sky dump down the white stuff. There was light rain in Innsbruck, but once I came up to Brenner and crossed over to Italy it was snow. Lots of it. Looks like the higher altitude keeps getting lots of snow. So if you’re thinking about travelling to the Alps or Dolomites, go high!

January 4 – Paganella
Workers on their way to the office in the morning: timber men in their truck and skiers in the Audi. There’s a lot of fresh snow in Paganella, but training is still pretty good. The slalom guys leave for Zagreb today. I’m going to stay here and ski some more, then off to Adelboden.
All the best,
Aksel
