Sailing ace Jimmy Spithill swapped the high seas for a ride on a MotoGP bike at the weekend's Red Bull US Grand Prix. Here's how he got on…
The skipper of ORACLE Team USA took a break from the America's Cup at the weekend to turn landlubber and climb aboard a two-seater Ducati X2 MotoGP bike for a burn around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
After MotoGP rider Stefan Bradl's day on the ocean waves with ORACLE Team USA, it was the turn of the crew's skipper Jimmy Spithill to swap sports and hit the Californian race track.
He was taken around the circuit by former racing star Randy Mamola on a 990cc bike that gives passengers a near-race experience and reaches speeds of over 150mph.
Spithill even got to enjoy the track's world-famous Corkscrew, which features an eight-storey drop as it winds down. After a knee-trembling ride, Spithill was probably glad to be back in the water.
