It was a Red Bull-backed one-two at the Freestone Motocross Memorial in Texas this weekend as Suzuki’s James Stewart and KTM Factory’s Ryan Dungey took first and second place respectively in the 450 class. Meanwhile, Dungey’s teammate Ken Roczen grabbed the third spot in the 250 class…

The Big Sky state of Texas played host to the second round of the MC Nationals this weekend as the cream of the motocross crop fought it out to climb up the season rankings. It proved to be a fiercely-contested competition as Suzuki’s James Stewart narrowly held onto first place to claim his second consecutive overall victory in the 450 Class.

Behind Stewart, Ryan Dungey piled on the pressure but, despite being faster than his rival at many points throughout the races, the Red Bull KTM rider couldn’t get past Stewart.

“I thought my day went good,” said Stewart, who holds onto the overall season top spot. “I got two good starts, made quick passes, and set the tone with a good pace. Ryan rode really well. I felt like we were even today and if he had gotten out front, he could have done the same thing.”

Dungey performance makes him second overall in the season standings. “I got off to good starts,” said Dungey. “I tried to make a pass happen but it just didn’t come together. James is a tough competitor and it’s good for the both of us to push each other.”

In the 250 Class, Honda’s Eli Tomac won himself a pair of moto first places to grab his second career overall victory.

“The last two seasons have been rollercoasters to say the least,” said Tomac. “I pretty much ruined my rookie season here, so to come back and get a win is just awesome.”

Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett finished second overall, while Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen, finished second for the second weekend in a row after maintaining his position maintained throughout the race.

The next event will take place on June 2 at Lakewood, Colorado.
