It was a great week for Callan O’Keeffe in the Formula BMW Talent Cup at Magny Cours in France with the old South African getting a win and a 4th place just a month after his 16th birthday on June 9th.
O’Keeffe, runner-up in the 2011 world karting championship had already won 3 heats in this year’s Cup and took a lights-to-flag win from pole position in the first race at Magny Cours.
The 2nd race was not as perfect, A mistake in qualifying left him 6th on the grid and though he raced hard, improved 2 places he could get no further than 4th. Race winner was Tristan Viidas from Estonia.
Callan: “I was able to control the first race on Tuesday from the front and win it easily. During Superpole for today’s race I briefly went off-track once and had to be satisfied with 6th spot on the starting grid. And then it was again impossible to overtake today. So I have to be content with 4th place …!”
The next races are at he Hungaroring near Budapest, August 8th to 12th and then the series of training events and races that is the 2012 Formula BMW Talent Cup culminates in the “grand final” from September 14th to 16th, supporting the DTM in Oschersleben.
