Red Bull Junior Daniil Kvyat (RUS - Koiranen Motorsport) made it a home country double with a brilliant win on Sunday at the Moscow Raceway and leaves as the points leader in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 after race 8 in the series.
16 year old Rookie Stefan Wackerbauer (GER - Koiranen Motorsport) came 6th in the rain after starting from 4th on the grid. Alexander Albon (THA - Epic Racing) was unable to make the start as the 16 year old's car was too badly damaged in Saturday's race.
The Sunday morning qualifying session again saw those drivers on top who are dominating this year's season: Stoffel Vandoorne (BEL - Josef Kaufmann Racing) , championship leader and a 2-time winner this season, was the fastest driver of his group and also took the 2nd pole position in Moscow.
18 year old Kvyat, 2nd-placed in the championship and a 4-time winner this season, headed the other group but was slower and therefore started from 2nd position on the front row, as he did the day before. Wackerbauer again proved to be strong in timed practice, 4th position, row two.
Rain fell just before the race got under way, and a WET RACE was declared by race control.
Just as he had on Saturday Kvyat was able to take the lead after the start. Wackerbauer was pushed back to 6th, but managed to stay in contact with the drivers ahead.
Kvyat fended off the attacks of Vandoorne, the gap between wavering around 1 second.
Kvyat: "A perfect weekend at my home races. It doesn't get better than this – I've also taken back the championship lead, and with the fastest lap of the race!"
Wackerbauer was just 3 seconds of the podium places: "When you're starting from 4th and than finish in 6th, you can't be satisfied. But I already lost today's race after the start, when I got boxed in. A small consolation, I was able to set the third-fastest lap time of the race."
