The world’s best windsurfers are hunting the three biggest storms anywhere on the globe – to ride them! Now you can decide who you want to see tackle the fiercest challenge against the elements. Vote for your favourite storm chasers before July 15!
So far, more than 100 windsurfers, from 21 countries, have applied to participate in the global hunt for three storms beyond force 10 winds.
Among them, legends, past Red Bull Storm Chase participants, prominent PWA professionals and hot-shot amateurs – all ready to kick ass and hungry to make the shortlist of the top 50 selected by the judging panel, headed by windsurfing legend Robby Naish.
Those amateurs and pro storm specialists that made the cut after the rider registration closed on June 28 will advance to the public online voting stage, starting today, July 2.
PWA Head Judge Duncan Coombs said: “We were blown away by the high level of sailors: prominent professionals like Victor Fernandez, Ricardo Campello and Philip Köster registered as well as amateurs and promising rookies. This was definitely not an easy choice. A big thanks to all the riders who registered.”

Red Bull Storm Chase is the most challenging windsurfing contest of all time. By hunting down three massive storms anywhere in the world, the 10 best sailors will battle for the crown of ultimate storm windsurfer. The contest format is simple: The top 10 sailors from the online voting compete in the first mission. Six advance to the second and the four best riders to the final mission. To guarantee raging conditions, Red Bull Storm Chase 2012 will be mobile to the max, with a four-month holding period and just 48 hours to mobilise riders and global contest crew on-site before the storm strikes.
