The Reptilez street-dance crew took the Red Bull Beat Battle 2012 title to prove they truly are South Africa’s best dance outfit.
In front of a crowd of over 1,500 spectators at Bassline in Newtown, dance crews Artistic Intelligence, Hlaks, Ninja Turtles, Phly Nation, Real Actions Juniors, Reptilez, Soulistic Fusion and V.I.N.T.A.G.E set the stage alight with tight, pin-sharp routines. The eight crews specialise in various styles, from hip hop to pantsula and everything in between, and had to utilise their most moves in a gruelling six-city qualification process.
It was an unexpected line up in the final, with Repltilez facing off against V.I.N.T.A.G.E. In the end, it came down to a heated challenge and Reptilez were crowned the 2012 champions.
“It’s unbelievable, it feels like we’re dreaming! Our aim was to make the final and it was great that we had the crowd on our side,” said the winners as they stepped off the stage.
Not only was the crowd treated to the best local dance talent, but some of South Africa’s best musical performers too, including Big Nuz, crowd favourites Black Motion, Pro and a special live band performance from cool Kwaito kings, TKZee.
Apart from an opportunity to tour the country as Red Bull Beat Battle winners, giving dance workshops, they’ll also be jetting off to Brazil to witness the international final of Red Bull BC One.
