The Red Bull Extreme Sailing team grabbed a podium spot on the final day of Act One of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series in Muscat, Oman.

Skipper Roman Hagara, assisted by crewmates Hans Peter Steinacher, Will Howden and Craig Monk, even survived a collision on the final day.

"In the first race, we were hampered from the start and finished in ninth place,” Steinacher explained afterwards. “In the fifth race, we took a hit on the hull from another team and we thought we were done for."

However, the four men weren’t done for and steered their 40ft catamaran to third place by the end of the event.

'This is a dream come true' – Roman Hagara

"We stuck to the plan," added Hagara, "and we were rewarded. For us this is a dream come true. To survive after facing all these teams is not a cakewalk."

Red Bull Extreme Sailing’s match race victory over double America's Cup winners Alinghi (SUI) and another 14 top-three finishes across 32 races laid the groundwork for their podium placing behind Groupe Edmond de Rothschild and Artemis Racing.

Act Two of the prestigious sailing series begins on April 13 in the Olympic Village in Qingdao, China.
