This year, the US$155,000 Billabong Pro has changed to a 6-Star rated ASP World Tour event and increased its field from 38 to 144 competitors, giving dozens of local and international hopefuls a chance to compete at one of the world’s premier wave locations.
Recognised as one of the world's top surfing destinations and a mainstay of the World Tour, Jeffreys Bay, in South Africa, will give younger, less experienced surfers the opportunity to test their skills against the best.
Among the big-name draw cards at this year's event are two-time defending Billabong Pro champion, and local favourite, Jordy Smith (ZAF), Hawaiian prodigy and current world rated number five John John Florence (HAW), Brazilian Adriano De Souza (BRA) and former Men’s World Champion C.J. Hobgood (USA).
The week-long tournament also boasts a musical element, with the 5FM Music Festival taking place over three consecutive nights from July 13-15, with more than 40 different artists scheduled to perform. For more on the Billabong Pro J-Bay log on to www.billabongpro.com
