The reaction from the divers after the first day of competition dives for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2012 qualifier at a wetter than normal Hawkesbury River in Australia...
David Colturi (USA): "It feels incredible now. As always when you’ve got all your dives off in a competition it feels fantastic. Doing them well is like nothing else. Being cold up on the platform is never fun, you’re tight and a little bit anxious, but I dove in the rain before so you just have to clear your mind and do the best you can. I am definitely happy with this first day. I was consistent, straight up and down!
Blake Aldridge (GBR): "When I woke up this morning I felt great and ready for the competition. Unfortunately we haven’t been blessed with good weather, but if you can do your dives well in these conditions you can do them in anything. So I got that today and dived my best. My new dive went fantastic and I just learned it yesterday. I’m over the moon, I am so happy!"
Steven LoBue (USA): "After today, the conditions weren’t optimal, but I think getting through a list and having a pretty consistent day is a confidence booster. And I am feeling good going into Saturday."
Todor Spasov (BUL): "I am really happy with my dives. Still, I made some small mistakes, but did dive consistently and the scores of the judges were fair enough for me. We had a very good competition, although the weather was really bad. But I could control my dives, which is the most important thing and that makes me happy."
Jonathan Paredes (MEX): "I feel happy because I am safe. I am currently in fifth and that’s not good enough. However on Saturday I want to do my best and still be safe!"
Jorge Ferzuli (MEX): "I feel great. I am happy that all my dives worked well. It was kind of difficult to get focused because of the weather, but in the end everything worked well. For Saturday I will just keep on going like I did today. I made some mistakes today, but I will fix them by Saturday. Today I am just happy and ready to go."
Kent De Mond (USA): "I didn’t put down my last dive, but I am pretty happy with the rest of today’s competition. With two days of competition it’s all about consistency and I guess that’s part of what will decide the top four after Saturday."
Andrey Rublev (RUS): "I touched the platform at the take-off for my first dive and that influenced my whole dive. I made it to the water okay and thought it’d get better soon, but my leg and knee really hurt and I had to withdraw. I am really sad now, but in the end I am happy to still be walking."
