With Show Three of the new Red Bull Web TV show Trendspy in the offing, we look at the star of the show, the Aquacruiser!
Although jetskiing’s great fun, you do need a licence to do it. However, we’ve got the perfect 'no licence required' alternative: Aquacruisers! Moving across the water at up to 40kph (24mph), it offers a jetski-like experience, but with even more flexibility, because you can sit on it or kneel on it – or even stop it, lie on it and sunbathe on it. You could even stand and raise a leg, or perhaps two – although such attempts usually result back in the sitting position. All you need for Aquacruising is a swimsuit and, in case you fall off, the ability to swim! It takes no time at all to learn, and in just five minutes you’ll find yourself skimming through the water. You simply need to hold on, push the button and lean in the direction you want to go. The stronger you push the button, the faster you go. If you want to slow down, just stop pushing and enjoy the view!
Gimme Techs 'n' Specs!
Its 'brushless' engine is powered with a lithium battery. The bowl is made from synthetic materials and the cockpit is a carbon construct. The whole machine weighs around 95kg, about the same weight as 237 frogs, at just under 2m length it’s about the same length as 8.5 ducks, and at 27kph (the fastest can reach up to 40kph), it’s approximately as speedy as a particularly athletic mackerel.
Austrian inventors Hubert Pohn and Ronald Schiefer wanted to create a product that was fast and could be used for water rescue as well as recreation. Since starting work on this project in 2005, they’ve created a whole fleet of Aquacruiser prototypes including the kid’s cruiser, the power-speed-cruiser, rescue-cruiser, and speed-cruiser. Show-offs!
The Aquacruiser does have quite a formidable price tag at €900, but the good news is you can try before you buy with opportunities to rent an Aquacruiser starting around €15 for a 15-minute taster session.
