The 13th race in the 2012 MotoGP season is the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, more commonly known as the San Marino GP. Situated near to the city of Rimini, the Misano Adriático circuit (which will be re-named in honour of Marco Simoncelli for 2012) was constructed in 1972 and has since undergone considerable modification.
A regular venue for Italian Grands Prix throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Misano returned in 2007 to the MotoGP calendar. With new and updated facilities, track and grandstands, the Misano Adriatico has space for a maximum capacity of 60,000 spectators. To comply with MotoGP safety regulations, the 4,200m track runs clockwise for the World Championship races.
