Valencia has always been lucky enough to see one or more of the classes being decided, with 2010 being one of the most thrilling finales in years. Although last year's World Championship had already been decided prior to the final meeting of the season, champion Casey Stoner ended his campaign emphatically by starting from pole and clinching his tenth victory of the season by a mere 0.015 seconds, in a thrilling finale.
Situated in a natural amphitheater just 17km west of the city, the circuit gives unparalleled views to the 120,000 grandstand seats. The Circuit Ricardo Tormo (also known as Circuit de Valencia and officially named "Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo") is located in Cheste (Valencia, Spain) and built in 1999. It is often used as a test track by the Formula One teams, because of the mild temperatures in winter. Anthony Davidson holds the unofficial lap record, set in 2006 while testing a Honda, with a time of 1 m 08.540sec.
The track is named after Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer Ricardo Tormo (September 7, 1952 – December 27, 1998).
