About André
Mr. Comeback
Andrè Villa is known on the international FMX scene as a man with bags of style and an even bigger bag of tricks. Having quit his MX career in 2000 after suffering numerous injuries, Andre turned semi-pro in freestyle skiing before later returning to the bike in 2003 and dedicating his life to FMX.
After deciding to move from Norway to Spain to build what is arguably the best FMX park in Europe, Villa quickly began to reap the rewards of his decision to migrate south as he went on to win a series of big events and set standards for style in the sport.
After being sidelined by serious injuries in Madrid 2006 and in Poland in 2008, Villa burst back onto the scene in 2009 with loads of positive energy. In 2010, he decided to move once again and joined many of the international FMX elite in the sport’s hotspot in Temecula, California. Why? “I was fed up of getting beaten,” explains Villa. With a new bike, new practice environment and plenty of new tricks, Andrè Villa was leading the 2010 tour almost all season until "Destroyer" Nate Adams passed him for another World Series victory at the end of the campaign in Rome, Italy.
Villa moved to Temecula at the beginning of 2011 to sharpen his skills with the international elite ahead of the season opener in Dubai. He came in strong with second place and carried the good vibe over to Brazil for another podium. Due to a little mishap in Rome, André missed the victory on the third stop, but was as in 2010 able to grab the overall lead based on his points half through the season. Las Ventas was never kind to the towering Viking and Villa left Madrid without a podium spot, ending up in fifth place.
After the X-Games Villa´s plan was to come back strong in Poland to be back in the points for the championship, but instead he ended up in the hospital, just like in 2008 with a broken leg. Because the femur is the biggest bone in the body, André was facing a long road of recovery and it was out of the question that he would recover in time for the final event in Sydney.
While his fellow riders used the off-season to relax, Villa had to work hard to be back on the bike in January 2012 and start training for the Dubai season opener.
Villa came back strong and ended up a heroic 5th place on the sandy beaches of Dubai, but was not able, due to some minor injuries, to compete at any other stop. Let´s see what the Viking has under his sleeve for the 2013 tour...
