About Casey
Winning a MotoGP championship title at just 21, Australian rider and now double world champion Casey Stoner earned his place among the great heroes of the sport in only his second season as a competitor in the 800cc category.
Riding for the Repsol Honda team in 2011 on the RC212V, Casey joined European stars Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso in the line-up. He made a good start with the new team, winning the Qatar GP at the beginning of the season, and it just got better and better until he sealed the title, on his birthday and at his home race in Phillip Island. It was also the fifth straight year he had won the Australian Grand Prix!
The patriotic Australian made his Grand Prix debut in 2001 in the 125cc class, taking the overall World Champion title in 2003 before moving up to the 250cc class in 2004. Blazing a trail and leaving others in his wake, Casey took the title in his first year and made it back-to-back championship wins after nailing the 2005 series.
Between 2007 and 2010 he was part of the Ducati Corse team in the 800cc MotoGP class and brought the title home in his first season with the Italian outfit. He left the team with an upbeat goodbye after finishing second in the Valencia race at the end of 2010.
2011 saw 10 wins, 12 poles and 16 podiums from 17 races. After such a stellar season, Casey has once again made himself the man to beat as the series returns to 1,000cc bikes for 2012.
