About Luis

null

Having cut his teeth in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, Luis Salom is the latest talent to come from Spain and following in the wheel treads of world champions Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, Toni Elias and Julian Simon as well as rising stars like Marc Marquez. Although if you ask him, the rider he admires the most is probably the great Valentino Rossi.

Salom narrowly missed out on the 2008 Red Bull Rookies Cup title by four points, finishing runner-up in the final standings. He was also second overall in the Spanish National Championship, having won two races.

In 2009, Luis made his world championship debut when he replaced Simone Corsi in the Jack&Jones WRB team, finishing in the points five times in his 12 grands prix and taking sixth at Donington.

Salom joined the Lambretta Reparto Corse team for his first full season in the 125cc category of the World Championship. In 2010, he teamed up with RW Racing GP, learning fast and scoring his first podiums at scoring his first GP podiums at Assen and Phillip Island in  2011. He remains with the Dutch outfit for 2012 ("It feels like home," he says) and the inaugural Moto3 season, lining up on Kalex-KTM machinery.

Having grown up in Palma on the island of Majorca, it’s hardly a surprise that when Luis isn’t riding motorbikes on the road, he’s taking them off road in motocross or jetskiing on the cobalt waters of the Mediterranean.
