His life is all about surfing and new challenges, which he takes without thinking it twice. Recognised for his results, but also for his immense courage, Gabriel astonishes the surfing community with his continuous achievements.
The last few years have been really successful for Gabriel. In 2008 he got to the top of the national surf scene winning the overall ranking of the National Championship in the Open Category. He also made second place in the WQS in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, and the prize for the best tube in the Cabo Blanco Billabong Tube Riders.
In 2009 Gabriel demonstrated that he can also succeed outside the Latin America borders, winning the third place in the ISA World Surfing Games organised in Costa Rica, and competing for the first time in a WCT championship (in the heat against Mick Fanning!). Since then he has won many contests including the WQS event in Chile and finishing in second place at the Quiksilver Pichilemu Big Wave Championship.
He caught the attention of competitors again at the Quiksilver Clasico Mazatian competition at the start of 2011 when he achieved the highest single-wave score – 8.6 out of 10 – with critical backhand snaps.
