- 13-time Panama National Surf Champion Gary Saavedra was looking for a new challenge and found it in the Red Bull Canal Cross project. The concept of crossing the Panama Canal by surfing a non-static wave turned out to be an historic endeavour as two new Guinness world records were set.
When Carissa Moore arrived in Guna Yala on the east coast of Panama to surf some undiscovered breaks she was joined by Panama's own surfing star Malena Toral and young Barbadian Chelsea Tuach.
