    On September 1, Hawaiian pro surfer Jamie O'Brien – the first man to win the Pipe Masters, Pipeline Pro and Backdoor Shootout in one year – arrived in the US to tackle one of the most talked about surf breaks in the world: the Wedge at Newport Beach. Forecasters predicted 15ft waves as a South Pacific storm combined with energy from tropical storm Ileana to create the perfect swell for the Wedge, a hard-breaking and unpredictable wave that takes shape just a few times a year.
