MONACO GRAND PRIX

The paradox of the most famous motor race in the world is that Formula 1 would not be as successful without it and yet, if it was to be proposed as a new race today, it would be dismissed out of hand on logistical and safety grounds. Monte Carlo itself has only produced one F1 driver born there, Louis Chiron, whose best result was a third place in his home race in 1950. He was best known for his amazing antics waving the chequered flag, often the most exciting part of the race! This is the only race that doesn't have a proper podium as the top three drivers all get taken along to the Royal Box, at the side of the track, from where the ruling Grimaldi family has always watched the race and handed out the prizes.
